Landsvirkjun’s objective is to operate without environmental incident. An environmental incident is defined as an incident, which according to the Company’s operation permit has to be reported to the environmental authorities or an incident during operations that violates the law, regulations, or the Company’s work regulations.

There was one environmental incident in Landsvirkjun’s operations in 2013.

In 2013, there was one environmental incident in Landsvirkjuns operations. The incident occurred during road construction on the Reykjaheiðarvegur road when 50 litres of oil leaked from a road grader onto the road area. The Public Health Authority in the northeast of Iceland was informed of the incident and approx. 0.5 m3 of the road surface was removed for disposal. There was no danger of pollution entering the groundwater or surface water in the area. The Administration of Occupational Safety and Health inspected all equipment at the start of the project and the incident was therefore of an unforeseeable nature.

Thirteen environmental incidents as a result of Landsvirkjun’s operations have been registered since 2006. Most of these are in connection with water steering; when water has not been successfully steered according to the Company’s own standards.
